No Default Sound Playback Device?
Hello. I am completely new to computers so bare with me. I just got this comp from my friend and i took it home and hooked it up and it has no sound. In control panel sound devices, everything is grayed out and it says i have no default playback device for anything. I DO NOT HAVE THE WINDOWS INSTALL CD. Under Hardware tab i see:
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Media Contrtol Devices
Legacy Video Captrue Devices
Video Codecs
under properties for everything, it says working properly, but location for everyone is unknow. Is there a problem with my 'drivers', do i ned new ones, whats the problem in the first place, do i even have a playback device? Please Help! Thanks! Links for the downloads(if you have any) would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
Find out what kind of computer it is (make, model, etc) and locate the drivers for the onboard sound device. Yes, easier said than done, but with a little patience, you can do it. Google is your friend 
Try to find the make and model, and do a google search with "make model etc.. specs". If you can find the specs on the system it should give a brand and model for the onboard sound device. Alot of these are Realtek. A few more simple searches for the drivers once you've correctly identified the sound device will solve your problems
