How Stereo Total are Continuing to Make Great Music

Stereo Total or what? Stereo Total is a Berlin-based band comprising of a French-German duo. Brezel ('pretzel') Göring (aka Friedrich von Finsterwalde, born Friedrich Ziegler) and Françoise Cactus (born Françoise Van Hove) are the two members of this band. Formerly, other members formed part of this band. This includes Angie Reed, Iznogood (Iznogoud is the character of a French comic book series by Jean Tabary and René Goscinny), Lesley Campbell and San Reimo.

Stereo Total's music is in fact a very different one from the rest. It entails a mixture of Synth-Pop, Electronica, New Wave, pop music and Punk which is not only catchy but also humorous. A connection to the retro-hip European 60's mod style can also be seen in Stereo Total's music and references to that period is also seen in the songs. A mod/psych/garage-rock transcend is evoked by some of their songs, in both lyrical content and production aesthetic. Francoise Hardy has the influence of the French pop of the sixties. This is very evidently seen in their album.

Some of the tracks of Stereo Total are in fact playful in nature, versions of pop/rock/soul songs that are low-fi and which use the reverberation and analog recording equipment. In the same fashion, a pop version of Salt-N-Pepa's "Push It", an electro rap hit was made by Stereo Total. Stereo Total is a multilingual band, truly. The languages they sing in include German, English, French; it also includes other languages like Japanese, Turkish or Spanish. Songs that the band has covered over a period of time includes Sylvie Vartan, Serge Gainsbourg, Françoise Hardy, Johnny Hallyday, Pizzicato Five, The Rolling Stones, Hot Chocolate and KC, The Beatles, and the Sunshine Band.

In June 2005, Sony in a commercial for the Handycam in Europe used the song "I love you, ONO", one of Stereo Total's song from the album My Melody. Also, this song was featured in "Afterbang" snowboarding hit of Robot Food's. This song was actually the low profile cover of a track which was originally called, "I Love You, Oh No!" It had featured in the 1980 album, "Welcome Plastics" by The Plastics, Japanese New-Wavers. The version played by Stereo Total was obviously titled with the original one, obviously a play on the original title and Yoko Ono. This song was in fact a homage paid to the original's Japanese origin.

"L'Amour a trois", another of Stereo Nation's songs, the French version of the song "Liebe zu Dritt" was featured in a commercial advertisement for 3G-phones in Sweden in 2005 by the company 3. It was also used by "Cuatro", the Spanish TV Channel in an advertisement for the company. The console game Dance Dance Revolution ULTRAMIX 4 included their song "Cannibale" when it was released in November 2006.

Stereo Nation has in fact make a good impact in the music arena with their remixes of a number of songs. The duo have come a long way since the inception of their band, "Stereo Total" and are continuing to make great music.
